Lighting Inspiration Post

Lighting plays a pivotal role in creating an atmosphere and mood for any room, so for today's blog post we have decided to share some great inspiration photos we have collected that demonstrate different styles of light fixtures.

Consider the colour of your lighting fixture and how it will contrast or compliment the rest of your room. A white chandelier in a white room will give a softer more subtle appearance, providing an illusion of space while alluding to modernism. Contrasting a black chandelier against a white room with make it a standout piece and draw attention immediately to it. Colour in lighting fixtures can look incredible if done right but make sure to take into consideration the other colours in the room, including decorator pieces, and how it will look in both daylight and at nighttime when it is on.

The lighting fixtures in the above picture are eye-catching pieces meant to draw attention. This kind of lighting is great for highlighting interesting characteristics of the room, for instance if you have a design or coloured ceiling. Remember to take into consideration the height of your room as you don't want the lighting to swamp the area. If you want to display an eye-catching lighting fixture but don't want to draw too much attention to your ceiling, consider going for a wide fixture rather than a long one and make sure to hang it lower. This will create the illusion of height and space without highlighting the flaws (if there are any!) of your ceiling.

Adding unique lighting fixtures is a great way to bring more personality to a room and be used a true standout showpiece for you to build your decor around. When you're choosing your lighting, look for something that reflects your own personality and the mood you would like to bring to the specific room. Think about whether you want the lighting to be complimentary to the rest of the room or act as a contrasting standout piece. Before you start purchasing, decide if you are going to 'mix and match' lighting or purchase multiples of the same style to keep a coherence throughout your house.

Our gorgeous Medusa Chandelier is just one of many of our different styles of lighting that we have on our website. Here at Vavoom we have a real love for chandeliers, pendants, lamps and other light fixtures. We have a range of classic, modern and unique designs for you to check out here.

The Entrance and the Console

This week's blog post is focused on an important part of anyone's home considering it is the first interior you see; the Entrance.
Jazzing up an Entrance or Hallway can make a significant difference to the overall feel and vibe of your home and requires fewer decorating steps than almost any other room!

A quick way to make an Entrance or Hallway feel more inviting is with the addition of a Console. The brilliance of the Console is that you can alternate it for a desk, cabinet or thin coffee table and still achieve the same desired effect.

Our Curved Leg Console is a simple way to bring understated elegance and style to your home! Featuring curved legs contrasted with a flat top, this modern piece is perfect for an Entrance or Hallway with limited space.

If mirrored furniture is more your style, we have a large range of mirrored consoles to fit every individual style. For example, our Deco Mirrored Cabinet (above) is the perfect statement piece to draw attention to your Entrance or Hallway. Featuring two spacious cupboards and sleek black legs, our Deco Mirrored Cabinet will bring an elegant touch of Art Deco to your home!

If you'd like an even more luxurious statement console, check out our Montano Console Table (left) and our Quartz Console Table!

If you love the mirrored look but prefer clean lines and simplicity then our Charlize Mirrored Console may be perfect for you!

If your style leans industrial grunge, then check out our French Industrial Hall Table. A truly androgynous piece, our French Industrial Hall Table is created from recycled timber, backed by a steady iron frame.

Our Oak Console is the ideal piece for the elegant and classic home! The simplicity of it makes it very versatile and allows for it to be a great accompaniment to any Entrance or Hallway.

Add some personality by arranging your own photographs, lamps, coffee table books, decorator pieces, plants and collectables on the bench of the Console.

Our Nixon Clock (Large) looks spectacular on any console or mantlepiece and is a truly eye-catching piece.

Also comes in medium.

For a bit of fun and quirkiness, our Chess Set (Large) would look incredible as a statement piece on a console in your Entrance or Hallway, particularly if you are indeed a player (if not, what better way to learn than with over-sized pieces?). Featuring a contrast of black and nickel, this Chess Set (Large) is refined and elegant and would look brilliant with other monochromatic or mirrored pieces.

Another way to add a touch of individuality and your personality to your Entrance or Hallway is with a piece of artwork or a large printed photograph. If you're an artist or photographer (or know someone who is) then you could always reproduce your own work to hang, otherwise it is best to choose a piece that reflects you and the way in which you want your home to feel.

Imagery of trees immediately provides an air of relaxation and ease to your home while also making visitors feel welcome. If you live in the city or suburbs, our Tree Carved Mangowood Artwork (Black) will bring a connection with nature to your home, and if you live in the country it will reflect your lush surroundings.

Also available in White: Click here to view.

If you don't want to hang a piece of art or a photograph, another great idea is to hang a statement mirror above your console.

Here are just a few of our incredible statement mirrors:

Top Row: Brilliant Mirror (left), Amani Weave Mirror (centre), Kendra Mirror (right)

Bottom Row: Fabienne Mirror (left), Cubism Mirror (centre), Blaze 3D Mirror (right)

Adding a hat-rack to your Entrance or Hallway makes your home feel more warm and inviting for visitors while also making for a great place for you to store your clothing necessities for each season (we're thinking hats, scarves, beanies, etc.)
For something a little different and unique, check out our Woody Hat Stand!

A unique and rustic piece, our Woody Hat Stand will certainly be a talking point when visitors come over!
