Kitchen and Dining

Today's blog post is revolving around two of our favourite rooms in a household (that often are merged into one); Kitchen and Dining!

We've found two gorgeous inspiration images online and matched them up to some of our products so you can easily achieve a similar look. One is focused on having a larger space to work with for a Dining area, while the other is discussing the combined Kitchen/Dining and how to work with a smaller space.

Here at Vavoom, we think the Kitchen and Dining areas are two of the most important in a house. We spend a great deal of time in both; eating, drinking, talking, socializing with friends, catching up with family and winding down from a hard day at work.

This first inspiration image is of a simple, yet glamorous, dining room.
The use of black furniture, to contrast with the white walls and curtains, gives the room a much larger and elegant appearance while the chandelier adds a stunning finishing touch.
The mirror on the far wall creates an illusion of more significant depth and space.

Our Isabella Carver Chair would make for a great dining chair in a room such as the above. Upholstered in a rich, velvet fabric and adorned with a silver studded trim and black birch timber frame, our Isabella Carver Chair is a true stand out piece! With plush seating and a supportive back frame, the Isabella Carver Chair is incredibly comfortable as well as stunning to look at.

For dining table options, our Kobe Kansas Dining Table is a simple and elegant way to balance out the effect of the more stand out piece, the Isabella Carver Chair. Fitted with a black tempered glass top and a black powder coated steel frame, our Kobe Kansas Dining Table is the picture of refined elegance.

If you would prefer a more unique, statement dining table then look no further than our Mirrored Black Dining Table! Beautifully crafted with a black mirrored top, concave style legs and a subtle reflective finish - our Mirrored Black Dining Table is the perfect accent to any chandelier, reflecting it to create a stunning illusion. What truly makes the Mirrored Black Dining Table interesting is the clean lines and lean towards minimalism. This, contrasted against the glamorous Isabella Carver Chairs, would make for a truly unique and striking addition to any dining room.

When choosing a chandelier to offset this look, it is best to look for something that will not take too much attention away from the dining table and chairs but also something that will cast an aesthetically pleasing reflection upon the dining table.
Our Charlize Pendant (Black) is a great piece for doing just that.
The simple sheer black fabric shade, that is hand wrapped, is perfect for tying in with the monochromatic feel of the chairs and dining table. The single light ensures that not too much light is cast upon the table creating an unpleasant reflection, while the dangling clear glass beading pick up the lighting and truly sparkle.

To finish the glamorous look, a simple beveled mirror will create an illusion of depth and space within your room despite its size and shape. Our Bevel Flat Mirror (Large) is the perfect addition to your dining room space.

If you would like something a little bit more decorative but still subtle enough not to distract from the other stand out pieces in your dining room, then our Arabella Floor Mirror is a great option.
A wood framed mirror with an embossed silver metal finish, our Arabella Floor Mirror also has 4mm beveled edge glass.

If you find yourself struggling with space because your Kitchen and Dining area are one in the same, then here are some tips to alleviate the dreaded clustered feeling and maintain a beautiful, spacious room.

Firstly, aim to choose dining chairs that are armless. Although this may seem like a small feature, arms on chairs take up more space and can make a smaller area feel tight and uninviting. Our Meridian Chair is a great option as the high back retains elegance but the small frame takes up little space. Obviously taking into consideration the colour scheme of your room, it is best to choose chairs with neutral fabric. The pale colour of the linen upholstery on our Meridian Chair adds to the illusion of more space, while the contrast with the dark chocolate finished wooden legs adds interest to the piece.

For the dining table, try choosing something simple and minimalist. It is better to choose a rectangular table as circular tables will take up more unnecessary space. Teak works as a great accompaniment piece to linen (from the Meridian Chair), and our Heidi Dining Table is subtly unique with its convex legs and staggered top. If you have little space to work with, only choose a table which will accommodate your needs and how many chairs you desire. Our Heidi Dining Table doesn't take up unnecessary space, nor will its appearance take away from other pieces within your Kitchen/Dining area - allowing you more range in styling and decor.

Lighting can really open up the space of a room and so it is important to choose the right lighting for your situation. As you will be aiming for minimalism with your dining table and chairs, you can afford to be a little more daring with your choice of lighting. It is best to still stick to neutral or monochromatic colours, but rather than going for a traditional, more dainty chandelier, something like our Medusa Chandelier would make for an incredible stand out piece!
The interesting design, balanced out by the simplicity of the white colouring, makes the Medusa Chandelier a great choice of lighting for a smaller room.

Finally, if you would like to add a mirror to your room, it is best to choose something simple such as our Bevel Flat Mirror (Large)  featured earlier. Try not to place the mirror too close or directly opposite from any windows as it will look aesthetically unpleasing.
If you would like to choose a decorative mirror, go for something with clean lines and nothing too distracting to the eye.

Our Iron Frame Mirror is the perfect mirror for doing just that as the arch shape is interesting, but the clean lines will not distract from the other pieces within your Kitchen/Dining area.

Industrial (furniture) Revolution!

Holding similar values to vintage decor and, being a common interior design style that is often overlooked, it can be surprising how versatile Industrial style furniture and decor can be.
Are you looking for a style that will remain androgynous? That will work with femininity and masculinity and be versatile enough to fit most aesthetics?

Look no further than Industrial.

Inspired by the workplace, the Industrial style is about rough edges and raw materials. Its pieces are adaptable to fit any style, but often the key idea is for the Industrial style to appear unfinished.

The style is often associated with loft apartments and studios, however is versatile enough to easily translate in any style of home.

It leans well to minimalism, but if you are somewhat of a hoarder - never fear - by smartly collecting and pairing pieces, you can still achieve an Industrial style.

Because the industrial style can be quite monochromatic or sepia toned, it can sometimes make a room feel as if an injection of colour is needed. And what better way to do that than by displaying all your beautiful clothing?

Our Industrial Clothes Rack is the perfect way to do so! Developed in Ho Chi Minh City and inspired by French Colonial garment factories, our Industrial Clothes Rack would be a wonderful way to display your clothing anywhere you see fit too! Although a perfect addition to any walk-in-wardrobe, the more daring may choose to display this piece in their bedroom, or even, living room.

The industrial lean through the wheeled legs and the clean lines are versatile enough to suit any aesthetic.
