Bedside Tables

A handy and somewhat overlooked piece of furniture, the Bedside Table, or Nightstand, first became popular soon after houses were designed with separate rooms for sleeping and eating. The logic is that when retiring to bed the man or woman would have no place to safely put their candle (back in the days before good old electricity) and so a 'stand' or small table was created, at the same height of the bed, to keep it in safe reach.

Early Bedside Tables and Nightstands also contained cabinet space to house their chamber pots, before indoor flushing toilets and plumbing became commonplace.

Fun Fact: The first known use of the term 'Nightstand' was in 1892.

Modern Bedside Tables and Nightstands are an indispensable item providing a space for our lamps, alarm clocks, mobile phones, television remotes, books, keys and anything else we might need late at night or early in the morning. Despite often being overlooked, it is hard to imagine not having them in our bedrooms.
Thanks to indoor plumbing and flushing toilets, we do not only use cabinets as our Bedside Tables and Nightstands now. The options of what you can choose really are limitless. You can go for something more traditional like a stand, cabinet or simple three drawer, or something a little quirky and different like the step-ladder pictured above.

If your personal taste is a little more traditional and refined, check out our French Provincial Bedside Table (White, 1 Drawer). Also available in a 2 drawer, our French Provincial Bedside Table is a classic piece featuring a bottom shelf and a floral motif design on the front. Finished with a distressed and rustic feel, our French Provincial Bedside Table is the perfect piece for any vintage, French Provincial or Country, classic and refined bedroom.

If you'd like to see the 2 drawer version, click here.

Both pieces are also available in black.

If you prefer something a little more glamorous and modern, check out our Quartz Side Table.
Featuring a stunning satin black finish with a 4 mm clear beveled mirror top and square mirrored fascia panels, our Quartz Side Table is the epitome of modern glamour. A really unique and impacting piece, the brilliance of it is that depending on the rest of your bedroom decor, our Quartz Side Table can become a masculine, feminine or androgynous piece.

If you like the idea of a glamorous and modern side table check out the three above!
Our Banks Occasional Table (left) is simple and elegant with a polished aluminium finish to give a brilliant shine and three stunning legs.
Our Black Glass Top Table (middle) is an incredibly beautiful modern piece inspired by the classic turned leg table. It also features a glass top and is finished in a high gloss black.

This is how the beautiful black and natural bone colour tones are created in this piece. A true standout piece for your bedroom, our Anais Bedside Cabinet is for the bold and quirky person in all of us.

An interesting and different approach to a bedside table could be to take something completely different and turn it into a bedside table, similar to depicted in the step-ladder picture earlier.
A cool and different idea might be to take storage boxes and stack them on top of one another, this way you can still rest a lamp and your necessities upon them while storing your other items inside each box.

Pictured above are our Landmark Boxes (Set of 3). Made in varying sizes, our Landmark Boxes give an industrial and unique edge while still remaining practical.

Mirrored Furniture part deux

To celebrate hitting well over 1000 views on our blog we decided to revisit the topic of our very first blog post; Mirrored Furniture!
Here at Vavoom, we love Mirrored Furniture! We feel it is a key style that can appeal to many different tastes and aesthetics and is able to be utilized in any type of decor.

If you like the look of a mirrored dresser (as shown in the first inspiration picture) check out our Antique Mirrored Chest of Drawers. A part of our Antique Mirrored Range, this chest of drawers features pewter edged detailing and three roomy drawers. Roman and feminine inspired, a subtle yet still standout feature of our Antique Mirrored Chest of Drawers is the tapered footing. This piece would be perfect as a chest of drawers in your bedroom or, if you'd prefer, as a cabinet in a bathroom, living room or hallway.

If you like the idea of a mirrored dresser and the antique pewter finish but would prefer a cabinet rather than a chest of drawers, check out our Antique Mirror Bedside/Nightstand (left) and our Antique Mirror Cabinet (right).
Featuring the same style of footing and similar design as the Antique Mirrored Chest of Drawers, our Antique Mirror Bedside/Nightstand and our Antique Mirror Cabinet would make great singular pieces in your home, or complete the set for a stunning aesthetic.

Mirrored furniture was incredibly popular in the Art Deco era with beveled edging and cut glass being quite a prominent style.
Our Deco Mirrored Cabinet embodies the style and class of the Art Deco era while still remaining modern and unique. The high contrast of the reflective mirror with the stark black legs and rim around the top is truly evocative of the Art Deco aesthetic and the styles of furniture and home decor that were popular with socialites and elites of the time. Featuring two cupboard spaces, our Deco Mirrored Cabinet is spacious enough for your storage in the hallway, living room, bedroom or bathroom.

If you like the look of Art Deco inspired Mirrored furniture then check out our Georgia range!

The cut rectangle detail in the mirror makes both the Georgia Mirrored Dresser and the Georgia Mirrored Cabinet true standout pieces!
The Georgia Mirrored Dresser has significant space within its three drawers while the Georgia Mirrored Cabinet has two large cupboard drawers. Both pieces have a similar contrast to the Deco Mirrored Cabinet with the sleek black legs and edging detail around the top.

Kitchen and Dining

Today's blog post is revolving around two of our favourite rooms in a household (that often are merged into one); Kitchen and Dining!

We've found two gorgeous inspiration images online and matched them up to some of our products so you can easily achieve a similar look. One is focused on having a larger space to work with for a Dining area, while the other is discussing the combined Kitchen/Dining and how to work with a smaller space.

Here at Vavoom, we think the Kitchen and Dining areas are two of the most important in a house. We spend a great deal of time in both; eating, drinking, talking, socializing with friends, catching up with family and winding down from a hard day at work.

This first inspiration image is of a simple, yet glamorous, dining room.
The use of black furniture, to contrast with the white walls and curtains, gives the room a much larger and elegant appearance while the chandelier adds a stunning finishing touch.
The mirror on the far wall creates an illusion of more significant depth and space.

Our Isabella Carver Chair would make for a great dining chair in a room such as the above. Upholstered in a rich, velvet fabric and adorned with a silver studded trim and black birch timber frame, our Isabella Carver Chair is a true stand out piece! With plush seating and a supportive back frame, the Isabella Carver Chair is incredibly comfortable as well as stunning to look at.

For dining table options, our Kobe Kansas Dining Table is a simple and elegant way to balance out the effect of the more stand out piece, the Isabella Carver Chair. Fitted with a black tempered glass top and a black powder coated steel frame, our Kobe Kansas Dining Table is the picture of refined elegance.

Click on Kobe Kansas Dining Table to be taken directly to its location on our website!

If you would prefer a more unique, statement dining table then look no further than our Mirrored Black Dining Table! Beautifully crafted with a black mirrored top, concave style legs and a subtle reflective finish - our Mirrored Black Dining Table is the perfect accent to any chandelier, reflecting it to create a stunning illusion. What truly makes the Mirrored Black Dining Table interesting is the clean lines and lean towards minimalism. This, contrasted against the glamorous Isabella Carver Chairs, would make for a truly unique and striking addition to any dining room.

Click on Mirrored Black Dining Table to be taken directly to its location on our website!

When choosing a chandelier to offset this look, it is best to look for something that will not take too much attention away from the dining table and chairs but also something that will cast an aesthetically pleasing reflection upon the dining table.
Our Charlize Pendant (Black) is a great piece for doing just that.
The simple sheer black fabric shade, that is hand wrapped, is perfect for tying in with the monochromatic feel of the chairs and dining table. The single light ensures that not too much light is cast upon the table creating an unpleasant reflection, while the dangling clear glass beading pick up the lighting and truly sparkle.

To finish the glamorous look, a simple beveled mirror will create an illusion of depth and space within your room despite its size and shape. Our Bevel Flat Mirror (Large) is the perfect addition to your dining room space.

If you would like something a little bit more decorative but still subtle enough not to distract from the other stand out pieces in your dining room, then our Arabella Floor Mirror is a great option.
A wood framed mirror with an embossed silver metal finish, our Arabella Floor Mirror also has 4mm beveled edge glass.

If you find yourself struggling with space because your Kitchen and Dining area are one in the same, then here are some tips to alleviate the dreaded clustered feeling and maintain a beautiful, spacious room.

Firstly, aim to choose dining chairs that are armless. Although this may seem like a small feature, arms on chairs take up more space and can make a smaller area feel tight and uninviting. Our Meridian Chair is a great option as the high back retains elegance but the small frame takes up little space. Obviously taking into consideration the colour scheme of your room, it is best to choose chairs with neutral fabric. The pale colour of the linen upholstery on our Meridian Chair adds to the illusion of more space, while the contrast with the dark chocolate finished wooden legs adds interest to the piece.

Click on Meridian Chair to be taken directly to its location on our website!

For the dining table, try choosing something simple and minimalist. It is better to choose a rectangular table as circular tables will take up more unnecessary space. Teak works as a great accompaniment piece to linen (from the Meridian Chair), and our Heidi Dining Table is subtly unique with its convex legs and staggered top. If you have little space to work with, only choose a table which will accommodate your needs and how many chairs you desire. Our Heidi Dining Table doesn't take up unnecessary space, nor will its appearance take away from other pieces within your Kitchen/Dining area - allowing you more range in styling and decor.

Click on Heidi Dining Table to be taken directly to its location on our website!

Lighting can really open up the space of a room and so it is important to choose the right lighting for your situation. As you will be aiming for minimalism with your dining table and chairs, you can afford to be a little more daring with your choice of lighting. It is best to still stick to neutral or monochromatic colours, but rather than going for a traditional, more dainty chandelier, something like our Medusa Chandelier would make for an incredible stand out piece!
The interesting design, balanced out by the simplicity of the white colouring, makes the Medusa Chandelier a great choice of lighting for a smaller room.

Click on Medusa Chandelier to be taken directly to its location on our website!

Finally, if you would like to add a mirror to your room, it is best to choose something simple such as our Bevel Flat Mirror (Large)  featured earlier. Try not to place the mirror too close or directly opposite from any windows as it will look aesthetically unpleasing.
If you would like to choose a decorative mirror, go for something with clean lines and nothing too distracting to the eye.

Our Iron Frame Mirror is the perfect mirror for doing just that as the arch shape is interesting, but the clean lines will not distract from the other pieces within your Kitchen/Dining area.

Industrial (furniture) Revolution!

Holding similar values to vintage decor and, being a common interior design style that is often overlooked, it can be surprising how versatile Industrial style furniture and decor can be.
Are you looking for a style that will remain androgynous? That will work with femininity and masculinity and be versatile enough to fit most aesthetics?

Look no further than Industrial.

Inspired by the workplace, the Industrial style is about rough edges and raw materials. Its pieces are adaptable to fit any style, but often the key idea is for the Industrial style to appear unfinished.

The style is often associated with loft apartments and studios, however is versatile enough to easily translate in any style of home.

It leans well to minimalism, but if you are somewhat of a hoarder - never fear - by smartly collecting and pairing pieces, you can still achieve an Industrial style.

Our incredible French Industrial Tool Cabinet is the perfect solution to all your storage needs! This 19th century influenced roomy nine drawer cabinet is a standout piece that you will treasure forever. Made from recycled timber and styled in a quintessential industrial fashion, our French Industrial Tool Cabinet would be a perfect piece for your bedroom, living room, hallway or even the garage if you so wish!

Click on French Industrial Tool Cabinet to be taken directly to its location on our website!

Because the industrial style can be quite monochromatic or sepia toned, it can sometimes make a room feel as if an injection of colour is needed. And what better way to do that than by displaying all your beautiful clothing?

Our Industrial Clothes Rack is the perfect way to do so! Developed in Ho Chi Minh City and inspired by French Colonial garment factories, our Industrial Clothes Rack would be a wonderful way to display your clothing anywhere you see fit too! Although a perfect addition to any walk-in-wardrobe, the more daring may choose to display this piece in their bedroom, or even, living room.

The industrial lean through the wheeled legs and the clean lines are versatile enough to suit any aesthetic.

For a simple way to add an industrial edge to your home, try our Industrial TV Unit (Small).
Made from 100% FSC Accredited Recycled Teak, our Industrial TV Unit (Small) comes with a characteristically industrial steel frame available in two shades, a black (pictured above) and an orange.
The perfect addition to any living room or bedroom, our Industrial TV Unit (Small) can be dressed up or dressed down to fit your personal aesthetic and style.

If your television would feel more at home in a display unit, we're able to accommodate this desire through our Industrial Display Unit (Medium). A true standout piece with plenty of room to fit in everything you could ever need, our Industrial Display Unit (Medium) is made out of 100% FSC Accredited Recycled Teak and, similarly to our Industrial TV Unit (Small), the steel frame is available in two shades; the black (pictured) and an orange.

The clean lines and wheeled footings are classically industrial, while the recycled timber brings a rustic aesthetic to any home.
