Mirrored furniture first became popular in the Middle Ages in Venice, France and England. It was a symbol of status and wealth and, as it was incredibly expensive, it became a luxury only available to society's richest. It's popularity continued to soar throughout the 1800's, then reaching a peak in the 1920's during the art deco movement focusing on minimalism and clean lines. In the 1950's celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe began to publicise their use of the furniture in their homes, showing off their collections of mirrored furniture.
